Anyone with the
cojones to roll out a red carpet better have the goods to back it up. It seems that Bon V is up for the challenge. Counting Carmen Electra as one of its first patrons doesn't hurt, but it's gonna take a whole lot more than star power to live up to the buzz that this hotspot has generated.
At first glance, this Fulton Market sensation seems to emulate the ultra-lounge destination clubs of Vegas, LA and Miami—but look a little deeper. All of those uppity flourishes—the red carpet, over-priced drinks, hell, even the name (a slang take on French phrase meaning "the good life")—seem to poke fun at the very notion of snobbery. The 7,500-foot split-level space seems far less oppressive thanks to the classy, super-hospitable staff. The music is unassuming and danceable, the vibe decidedly laid-back and the crowd surprisingly diverse. If Bon V can keep this up, it just might raise the bar for all of those hipper-than-thou, can't-get-in-without-a-publicist super-clubs out there.
Destined to become a prime spot to see and be seen, there's no doubt that Bon V—co-owned by Casey Urlacher, little bro to Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher—will corner the market on high-profile football-season soirees.
