Editorial Review of Emmit's Irish Pub

Irish pub in West Town.
With a number of gleaming qualities of an authentic Irish pub, Emmit's is still very American thanks to the four flat-screen TVs, a spacious seating area and a menu peppered with wings, chicken tenders and nachos. Still, with a friendly staff, a decent selection of microbrews and a bevy of scotch to try out, its an upbeat pub to pop into with large groups or on your way out of the Grand Blue Line.

A two-level establishment, Emmit's has plenty of seating both on the main floor and upstairs, with tables, booths and a massive mahogany bar that greets you when you walk in. In the spirit of all things Irish, dark wood and green tones prevail, as well as Irish flags, shamrocks and the token Guinness signs here and there. There are also a few random finds, such as Chicago Police decor, bagpipes behind the bar, a collection of clocks and a piano toward the back of the room.

Not surprising, the bar's got the Irish lineup of Guinness, Smithwick's and Harp on tap, along with microbrews like Goose Island’s IPA and Matilda, Radeberger, PranQster and Bell's. Draft beers range in price from $4.50-$7.50. There’s a regular selection of bottles (think Miller, Bud, Amstel and Goose Island) ranging from $3.50-$5, and a well-stocked liquor backdrop boasting a vodka and whiskey list that runs quite long. Emmit's also offers a full menu of mostly American food (burgers, salads, pizza, pulled pork sandwiches) with a few traditional Irish eats like corned beef, Irish bangers and shepherd's pie. Mostly everything falls under $10 and the restaurant offers food specials every day of the week.

The pub fills up on weekends with a younger, rowdier crowd, so if you find one of the comfy booths in the back open, settle in for the evening over a Guinness or two.

Average cost: <$10
