Editorial Review of Fiesta Cantina

There's a fiesta happening in Wrigleyville, and it doesn't involve sports. What?! When the family behind El Jardin expanded into Fiesta Cantina—a margarita bar and cocina—they turned their focus to margaritas. Things heat up on the weekends, but weekday specials like Thursday $3 Coronas, coupled with salsa dancing, are pretty hard to resist. Expect a huge crowd on Cubs game days, when you should order a margarita and try to chill out.

At the ground-level Fiesta Cantina bar, a giant sombrero hangs above the main entrance. It's a kitschy aspect that makes this place stick out amongst the many Irish pubs and sports bars. Large glass windows ensure a great view of people plowing down the street, but it's easy to turn your view inside and watch people on the centrally located dance floor. Wild, multi-colored lights flicker and flash across the floor, illuminating sweaty bodies grinding to anything from Latin to pop. If you're not gonna dance, order a legendary margarita; the price tag is $8, but once you start sipping you'll see the purchase as an investment in this evening's fun. There are also eats like cheese quesadillas ($6), nacho libre ($8) and a super burrito ($8) to help you from getting too wasted.

The upstairs bar/dance floor/party room (which the Cantina shares with El Jardin) is open mostly on weekends—weekdays it is completely dark and seems like an unused storage space. Folks like the B96 DJs have shown up for live broadcasts, but there's also enough room for an open mic, dance party or live music. You can also throw your own killer party here, complete with as much Mexican food as you need.

Average cost: <$10
