More of a dance bar than a restaurant, Xcape seems incongruous near the somewhat seedy corner of Fullerton and Western in Logan Square. A classier place than anything around it (though it neighbors the beloved Quenchers), it seems stranded in the middle the block. But it certainly isn't languishing.
Flashy bar stools and neon lights catch the eye when you walk into the small restaurant, as does the sleek decor, the result of endless reflective surfaces. Despite its hike-from-the-L location, this swank place fills up, so if you are coming out, it's best to get here early. Tropical Night Thursday are especially packed, and tout music by Son de la Habana, $3 domestic beers and $5 drink specials.
The central dance floor heats up after 9 p.m. once rotating DJs start spinning Latin techno, hip-hop and house music. As a nod to the tapas tradition it seems to emulate, you can get small plates with an Argentine touch, such as chicken and beef empanadas. Though the food comes out hot, it's the full bar that keeps things muy caliente; try the sangria.
